Allan
Mann is a senior-level communications consultant with more
than 35 years of journalism, education and public relations
experience.
In addition to managing his independent public relations practice, he teaches graduate courses in public relations as an
adjunct faculty member at Golden Gate University’s Ageno
School of Business and conducts workshops on small business
promotion for the Small Business Administration.
Allan is a former Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications
at Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest integrated
healthcare system. Allan was responsible for media relations, community relations and internal communications. He worked closely with former Kaiser
Foundation CEO David Lawrence to help him convey his critical
ideas about patient safety and restructuring the health care
industry to both internal and external audiences. In his recently
published book, Chaos to Care, Dr. Lawrence recognized Allan
and his staff for helping him achieve national stature as
a leader in the health care industry.
Allan is widely
recognized as the architect of many successful communications
practices now used by Kaiser Permanente throughout the country.
Prior to his national position, Allan was responsible for
communications for Kaiser Permanente in Southern California,
where he managed a multi-million dollar budget, and a staff
of over 150 responsible for media relations, government and
community relations, internal communications, advertising,
marketing communications, and audio-visual services.
Allan earned his Bachelors Degree in Psychology from
UCLA and his Masters in Journalism from Columbia University.
Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Allan was a newspaper
reporter and a high school teacher, and served as Public Information
Specialist and journalism instructor at University of California
Riverside (UCR). He taught public relations writing for UCLA
Extension for three years and served as President of the Southern
California Health Care Public Relations Assn. He wrote and
published a national newsletter on travel to historic sites
in the U.S. for five years, and his freelance writing has
appeared in national, state and local newspapers and magazines. |
