Allan Mann is a senior-level communications consultant with more than 35 years of journalism, education and public relations experience.

In addition to managing his independent public relations practice, he teaches graduate courses in public relations as an adjunct faculty member at Golden Gate University’s Ageno School of Business and conducts workshops on small business promotion for the Small Business Administration.

Allan is a former Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications at Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest integrated healthcare system. Allan was responsible for media relations, community relations and internal communications. He worked closely with former Kaiser Foundation CEO David Lawrence to help him convey his critical ideas about patient safety and restructuring the health care industry to both internal and external audiences. In his recently published book, Chaos to Care, Dr. Lawrence recognized Allan and his staff for helping him achieve national stature as a leader in the health care industry.

Allan is widely recognized as the architect of many successful communications practices now used by Kaiser Permanente throughout the country. Prior to his national position, Allan was responsible for communications for Kaiser Permanente in Southern California, where he managed a multi-million dollar budget, and a staff of over 150 responsible for media relations, government and community relations, internal communications, advertising, marketing communications, and audio-visual services.

Allan earned his Bachelors Degree in Psychology from UCLA and his Masters in Journalism from Columbia University. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Allan was a newspaper reporter and a high school teacher, and served as Public Information Specialist and journalism instructor at University of California Riverside (UCR). He taught public relations writing for UCLA Extension for three years and served as President of the Southern California Health Care Public Relations Assn. He wrote and published a national newsletter on travel to historic sites in the U.S. for five years, and his freelance writing has appeared in national, state and local newspapers and magazines.
